It’s been more than a year since the original idea of this project came to life; but finally after a process of knowledge, training, the development of special skills, but above all by the commitment with the women’s issues that this month, after the International Women’s Day and during the celebration of the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women to be held from 9 to 20 March 2015 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, WAVE Initiative officially starts to fight human trafficking by means of sexual exploitation, as well as violence against women and the girl child.
This project aims to raise awareness about violence against women and girls, as well as the consequences it brings to our daily life; we look forward to empower women by strengthening their human, social and productive capacities and orientate them to their humanizing role of society. Understanding that women and men are both complements and necessary for building stronger societies.
Today we start our project by launching our official campaign #LookAtMe with the single purpose of visualize the existence of violence against women and girls around the globe. We look forward to raise awareness and to take action to stop this global pandemic.
At this starting point we take responsibility of the call made by the United Nations Secretary-General’s campaign on all governments, civil society, women’s organizations, men, young people, the private sector, the media and the entire UN system to join forces in addressing this global pandemic.
We encourage you to take part of this project and help us stop violence against women and girls!! Together we can make a difference!!
